Belle Plaine and Blake Berglund have separately contributed to the rising awareness of Saskatchewan’s music scene with their most recent releases: Malice, Mercy, Grief & Wrath and Realms, respectively. The “sister albums” share the two seasoned songwriters’ unique inward reflections and observations. Belle’s record was awarded the 2018 Saskatchewan Music Award for Album of the Year, and she’s recently been nominated for a 2019 Western Canadian Music Award in the category of Roots Artist of the Year. In 2018 Blake’s twangy style was recognized with a WCMA nomination for Country Artist of the Year.
The chemistry between the two is no act. What began as a flirtatious role with each other’s career evolved into Belle and Blake exchanging vows this past December. They were wed in winter country fashion at a church not far from Belle’s hometown of Fosston.
Belle Plaine and Blake Berglund are storytellers first and foremost. Their lyrics aim to connect, and – whether they perform with a couple of acoustic guitars or the full family band – they understand how to speak truth to an audience.
