BBQ Sloppy Joes

Mention Sloppy Joes around here and it seems a lot of folks think of their childhood school lunches. But we can promise you this simple recipe is about as far from cafeteria food as you can find.

With a boost of flavor from our Sweet Dixie BBQ Sauce, you can leave the hairnet at home and gather ‘round with the family for an easy, nostalgic meal.

Ingredients:

2 T vegetable oil
1 green bell pepper, cleaned and chopped
1 red bell pepper, cleaned and chopped
1 medium yellow onion, minced (about 1 ½ cups)
3 garlic cloves, minced
1 t salt
½ t pepper
2 pounds ground beef
1 cup Martin’s Sweet Dixie BBQ Sauce
1 14.5 Oz can diced tomatoes, drained
2 T tomato paste
6-8 buns

Method:

In a large skillet heat oil over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, saute onions and bell peppers until tender, about 5 minutes. Add garlic and cook until fragrant, about a minute or two. Add ground beef and cook until brown. Use a wooden spoon to break up the ground beef into little pieces while it cooks, this should take about 6-8 minutes.

Once the ground beef is cooked, add the salt, pepper, Sweet Dixie BBQ Sauce, tomatoes and tomato paste. Lower the heat to medium-low and cook until sauce thickens, making sure to stir regularly.
